Colin Wilson (1931-2013) was an English writer, novelist and self-styled philosopher. He is best known for The Outsider which was published when he was 24 and discusses the idea of social alienation in the work of such literary and cultural figures as Camus, Sartre, Hemingway, Van Gogh and others. It contributed to popularising Existentialism in Britain. Wilson was linked to the Angry Young Men movement of British Literature and contributed to the Declaration, an anthology of manifestos associated with the movement. In the sixties, Wilson was increasingly drawn to metaphysical and occult themes resulting in a number of publications that proved to be rather controversial.
