This collection of short stories is set in the industrial slums of London’s Battersea and Clapham Junction in the sixties and illustrates the lives and preoccupations of young working class women and men of that period. The stories are a classic of their kind. A TV play for the renowned BBC series “The Wednesday Play” was released in 1965, directed by Ken Loach. The play was adapted by Dunn herself with input from Loach. A film with a soundtrack by Manfred Mann was produced in 1968, directed by Peter Collinson and starring Dennis Waterman, Suzy Kendall, Maureen Lipman, Liz Frazer and others.?
