Kiddar’s Luck?is the first of Jack Common’s autobiographical novels about working class life on Edwardian Tyneside. Common, a British socialist, essayist and novelist born in 1903 was an excellent chronicler of the everyday life of the working class.?Kiddar’s Luck, together with the second installment? The Ampersand?was supposed to be part of a trilogy but Common’s publisher Turnstile Press went into liquidation before this could be achieved. Common was friends with George Orwell and for a few years they were near neighbours. Jack Common the man has inspired a number of UK folk singer/songwriters and their lyrics.
