A suspense novel by this Australian-born writer. The 1964 film version under the direction of Bryan Forbes was co-produced by Bryan Forbes and Richard Attenborough who also plays one of the lead characters. Others starring are: Kim Stanley, Nanette Newman, Mark Eden and Patrick Magee. The film was shot at Pinewood Studios and in and around various London locations. The film and its actors were nominated and won various prizes. However, commercially it was a failure. In 2000, KIyoshi Kurosawa directed a horror film based on the story. The musical lyricist Stephen Schwartz wrote a libretto based on the Forbes film and also composed the music. It was premiered in 2009 at the Granada Theater of Opera Santa Barbara which commissioned the work.?
