A film version?Lonely are the Brave?(1962) was produced by David Miller based on a screenplay by Dalton Trumbo who was one of the Hollywood Ten who refused to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (and was therefore blacklisted by Hollywood). It featured Kirk Douglas who cited it as his favourite film, Gena Rowlands and Walter Matthau.?
